I don't understand MC but maybe he's afraid and that ML's love is an illusion/fake. That ML only confessed bc he's confused, that his feelings won't last long. The ML he loved is someone who hesitates when confessing with a blush, while this one says it easily as if he doesn't mean it. MC doesn't want to hold on to someone who loves him half-heartedly, and since he doesn't remember the past (and might never), it feels like a stranger, like the one he loved/ loved him died.
