@RecklessSavage think of ancient magic more like studying history instead of studying magic 

all his disciples actually used normal magic to do those things 

but later people decided it had to be some kind of special ancient magic, because regular magic could never.

It's like saying the pyramids where built by aliens because you can't believe ancient humans could actually build them.
