I think this the first story ever that I've read where an aristocrat who hated his wife actually let her keep her dowry. A dowry is supposed to be payment to the husband for accepting the bride. Why would the duke let her keep it?

@starpixidust he probably just didn't want to do anything with his nemesis family lol would be a lowkey childish and petty reason
@starpixidust well in some instances the dowry is sent with the wife as funds for her to use while she becomes familiar with the estate and how it runs but ultimately the husband has control over the estates financials. Her dowry is from an external source from outside the bubble of the husbands finances and technically he could probably take it for himself but he'd face backlash from her family (if they actually cared). (Most of this is guessing and from reading other manhwa)
@starpixidust am i right to assume you're an Indian? In other countries, a dowry was a sum of money/assets given by the bride's family to act as a financial safety net for the bride herself. So if the bride has a good relationship with the groom's family, she could potentially use the money for the new family. Thus a dowry was basically the way to solidify the bride's status in her new family.
