@Usagime I DON'T REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED to the parents but I think they died, so the grandparents (I believe) took the brother in but not MC, instead he went to live with his uncle's family (they actually got paid an allowence to take care of MC but used it instead on themselves) and treated MC badly, he felt alone. 

Brother is 10 years older and always excelled in everything, so MC believed that it he tried his best he too would be loved like his brother, always dreamed of a family.

Now it's his (MC's) birthday and the brother contacted him out of nowhere, and he thought "he was finally going to get a family" but instead brother gave him a presentation card and money, basically saying "do whatever you want with it idc", and the MC felt sad because it's not that he doesn't care about money, it's just that he want a relationship with his brother (you know like the children of absent parents who are forced to pay child support but never spend quality time with their kids)

Does that make sense??
