I want to see a story where the mc keeps dying and a somebody else inherits their power via a stone which collects a teensy fraction of their potiential/power or smth over their lifetime. It starts as historical fiction, but over 1000s of years and hundreds of lifetimes, it evolves into magic, tech, and cosmic battles as the wielder of the stone grows in power and higher beings find it more and more valuable. No plot armor at all for anyone but the stone. an mc might die protecting sheep or from a plague. an odd sword stabs him in the shoulder during the war and while he survives it gets amputated or maybe he just dies from the infection altogether. The stone is the real main character of the entire trek and the wielder is just a mortal man
