Ew. It's not. Painter of the Night is brutal ra**, imprisonment, physical and mental abuse and worse of all Stockholm Syndrome being called "Love". If anything is life a modern day Painter of the Night it'd be Love Jinx. This one is consensual, although the bottom is feeling forced to accept the conditions but not because the top is forcing him, just bad life conditions. Totally not the same.
Both are toxic though but POTN is beyond sickening.
