It is a term used to describe aspects of s** that involve dominance, submission, and control. The practice typically involves one partner taking on a more dominant role during s**, while the other is more submissive. Nowhere in it's name or definition does it say specifically, that there has to be toys. And in my opinion, there really doesn't have to be any, if the couple doesn't want them.
