Well he's technically not incorrect. 

Christianity was only accepted by a small number of people.  With most Jews at the time, not believing he was the messiah, and most still don't for failing to fulfill certain core parts of the Torah's (Old Testament's) core parts of Messianic Prophesy.

Such as bringing world peace, gathering all Jews to Israel, rebuilding the Temple, or ushering in an era of universal knowledge of G**.

Even early Christianity, was treated as a cult. With a fair degree of prosecution.

Even Judiasm (and it's off shoots) originally split off from Zorastorianism.  With heavy borrowing from Babylonian Mythology in the stories of Genesis.

So ... all in all.  The statement, while tactless and lacking taste.  Isn't really incorrect.  

But then again.  It also applies to Atheism, which puts their faith and beliefs in science.  Where the "laws" of science are consonantly shown to be both debunked and break down under close scrutiny. (Things can get hot enough to switch to near sub zero temperatures;  Gravity breaks down and goes haywire at micro to nanoscopic levels; Light is a particle and a wave, but sometimes a photon can randomly teleport (not a function of a particle nor a wave), or be in sync with a photon in a totally different location (quantum entanglement. Also not a particle nor wave function); Time and Space warp and go into chaos based on speed, gravity, and celestial interactions;  etc.)
