When Ruan Tao was a child, Su Man supported her dream of being an artist with flowers and encouragement; her feelings were platonic, rooted in gratitude. Later, at her sister’s institution, she liked Tao’s kindness and innocence even more, but was never attracted to her. When Tao’s father asked Su Man to become Tao’s stepmother and watch over her, she accepted out of sympathy and gratitude. Only after they were together—when Tao was an adult—did Su Man develop feelings. So her saying she “liked” Tao all along wasn’t romantic; it meant their connection wasn’t a whim but the result of past events.

I never sensed any pedophilic message. Chinese manhwa translations can be confusing, but that doesn’t justify this twisted reading. I avoid toxicity in yuri—force, dub-con, bullying, pedophilia—and never felt that here. Tao seeing Su Man as motherly was odd, but that’s it. Keep your perverted thoughts to yourself; if you can’t grasp the story’s complexities, don’t comment.
