@Basic Lady  he (let's call him pretty boy cause I forgot his name) was proving a point to ML. All this time ML was saying that MC was "just a blessed maiden" and "he only needed him for his power." If that was the case any blessed maiden would do--including pretty boy. By rejecting pretty boy, ML now realized he didn't want a blessed maiden. He wanted the MC.

@LazyLiko Hope that is the case but then why would that pretty boy help ML?
