I noticed some people have been confused in recent chapters so quick (mostly non-spoilery summary):
Story opens with white lion alpha Bai Chunian with his boss Yan Yi. He currently works for the Omega Alliance and has been integrated into human society for about 3 years. Lan Bo/Rimbaud (named after the poet. Lan Bo is just the Chinese name for the same poet so you can use either) is a merman omega. Lan Bo and Rimbaud were both experiments at the 109 Research Institute. They were both placed in the same breeding box, and that is where they fell in love. They suffered a lot of torture there are the hands of the researchers. Lan Bo helped Bai Chunian escape though he doesn't know that yet, while Lan Bo stayed back at the institute and continued to be victim to their torture. Years later, Bai Chunian receives a mission to save a captive omega, sees that it is Lan Bo, and accepts the mission. That's how they reunite. However, instead of taking Lan Bo back to the Omega Alliance like he was supposed to do, he doesn't want to let Lan Bo leave his side so he takes Lan Bo back home with him. Because he broke that rule and chose to keep Lan Bo, Yan Yi basically suspends his work for now and places him on house arrest lol. Lab Bo is given work to help him adjust to life now which is where we are now with Bai Chunian following his omega around to see how things are going.

Additionally, we just finished reading about the Advanced Team Warfare Level (ATWL) exam. Bai Chunian is waaaaaaay above the level for the exam so Yan Yi and Lu Shangjin, married omega-alpha pair, want Bai Chunian to help their teen omega son Lu Yan pass this exam. Bai Chunian insists on bringing Lan Bo with him for this. So their team becomes: Lu Yan, Bi Lanxing (greenish hair, Lu Yan's alpha, not together yet at this point though), Bai Chunian, and Lan Bo. The exam itself is virtual reality so nothing happening in it is actually real. The purpose is to defeat all other teams. While in the exam, they come across a snake alpha. Back in the 109 Research Institute, there was a short period where the researchers took Lan Bo away from Bai Chunian and placed him in another box with the snake alpha. You can guess what happened there. When Lan Bo returned, he spent the entire night soothing a distressed Bai Chunian. The snake alpha then taunted and hurt Bai Chunian, which enraged Lan Bo and he went and killed the snake alpha later. So the one we see in the exam is not real because the guy is dead but Bai Chunian didn't know Lan Bo killed him for his sake. Lan Bo has done a lot of things to save/help Bai Chunian at this point but Bai Chunian is unaware of them all and thinks that Lan Bo just didn't want to stay by his side anymore.
so we're at this point: they're both in love, already recognize each other as their mate (but have not officially made the permanent mark just yet), but due to miscommunications and misunderstandings between them, they still have a lot to learn about each other and to grow together.
And one last thing: Lan Bo may seem a bit childish? right now but he is actually super intelligent. The reason things like his speech are limited currently is because he was separated from his alpha before he could fully "mature." They use pheromones to cultivate to maturity. I guess you can think of it kinda like puberty lol. Without Bai Chunian there at the institute to help him develop using his alpha pheromones, Lan Bo's maturity was stunted. Bai Chunian had also been in a similar state at one point but Lan Bo exhausted his own pheromones to help Bai Chunian mature before planning Bai Chunian's escape from the institute. His speech and comprehension abilities will improve with time and exposure to Bai Chunian.
sorry but are you writing an essay?
It's one of my all-time fave Chinese novels but it seems like the manhua is a bit confusing so I wanted to clear up possible confusion for the people that are lost. If you are following along fine, then just ignore my comments.
