It's his sword or ego that devours it, he still doesn't level up, it's his ego that gives him the abilities

logically speaking any skill that lets you heal anything is better than having a skill that does damage, going into a "gate" that does damage with lots of mobs you can heal lots as there's a high chance of healing vs 1 single boss where you'd only heal after killing it
