so my theory is..
was shavonne his torturer? He once said he didnt love lewellyn back in the days before they were neighbours. Shavonne lost his memories and became mental? Then got treated and become living a "normal" life? Lewellyn tracked him down and wanted to be loved and not abandoned by shavonne again..? Then doctor keeping tab on shavonne to see if he remembers his past? I dont know man. So messy ? fk.
