Eh... he had It hard with the false accusation, completely true. Anyone can understand how frustrating that moment was and what a shi*** family he has (in the rest of the backstory). But STILL, he’s obsessive and abusive. I don't know where you see him being sorry, maybe in the sequel, because here he's been manipulative (yes, saying "I'm sorry", "it's because of you", etc.) and selfish. Plus, it was stated that he’d do anything to get what he wants.
He has serious issues and needs professional help.
Also, saying "I'm sorry" doesn't mean he's sorry, and you can tell by the way he goes back to the same shi*** attitudes. Maybe in the room he was kinda sorry.
