My two cents but some of y’all need to pick a side!! Are Korean authors
A) not educated enough on race (aka black people only for some reason) to portray them accurately
or B) are Korean authors educated/passionate enough to portray black people in deep stories with nuance and good writing and do their research?
Bc if it’s A they aren’t forced to choose civil war America when Korea has an EXTENSIVE AND WELL DOCUMENTED HISTORY itself and they should stick to what they know and WANT to research instead of freestyling black history. And if it’s B then it’s a deliberate choice to ALWAYS portray them as nothing more than slaves and have a white man save them. Like you can’t give us no other narrative??
I’ve red multiple manhwa with black characters, based in the US and you know what? They’re nothing more than… just black men. No need to choose SPECIFICALLY the colonial period to add « depth », they’re just black.
And I HIGHLY doubt black people are excusing this behaviour. But our opinion never matter in these spaces bc these situations never involve white people being the one dehumanized for plot. If we LOVE suffering and historical accuracy then why come we never have a manhwa in N*i germany involving a jew and a gestapo membe? It’s always black people and slavery for a reason.

@Kael make me you dumb c*t😘
You can’t sell your work internationally and complain when international fans hold you accountable for your racist work unlike the others
@animadeus as a poc, I want authors from different backgrounds and cultures to make comics on these types of topics because it encourages them to thoroughly research and understand how deep these serious topics are. However, it's just that since they are not from the background I think they don't feel the need to take it as seriously, like how this author is romantizing slavery. However, one bad apple shouldn't ruin the whole tree, I still think other authors should still be able to make comics on topics like these as long as they do their research and take things seriously
@Salix as I said if they LOVE this dynamic so a they should use the japanese soldier - Korean prostitutes trope so they ‘re well educated and no one is offended😀 or a n*i soldier - german jew during WWII.
Black people don’t exist in Korea according to korea boos so Korean ignore racial discrimination, so why would they want to include us in historically accurate art if they can’t comprehend where we come from? Keep it at the racially ambiguous fair skinned characters then instead of using inclusion to cover racism.
@animadeus eh, I disagree with your examples because it's still abuser x victim which is weird. I do agree with you on the fact that there is virtually no black people in korea and not including poc bc of what'll happen and how they'll be portrayed ☹️. Maybe they should try again when the world isn't so full of hatred ig
