I think they are brothers but in a friendly way??  Like "we are friends so we are brothers now" but it's only my opinion because they are nothing alike, they love each other and in a few films i saw when two friends called themselfs brothers ( old movies )

@Faith it's like how monks call eachother "brother" or Korean guys will call their close older male friends "hyung", they're not literally brothers
