I knew it. The police aren't all dumb. 
Even if it was a prank, they are obligated to check it out or just get angry on the culprits but they won't just leave without doing anything

Question everything you see because nothing they tell you can ever be your truth.

I thought so, too, in the previous chapter. The older cop raising his voice was the start of the vague hint. The next chapter (this chapter) was already out, so I didn't bother typing my hunch, anymore. :3

Anyway, can't have external forces outperforming our mc's "Die Hard movie" role.
