@Murim Lady me too. Coz how he said he was once loved by the mother it seems like he is not illegitimate child of father
@Teeesha he still could be an illegitimate child from the woman the Duke loved, if she died in child birth and the duchess who maybe loved the Duke thought that if she raised the child of the only woman the Duke loved she might also receive some love but the Duke never recovers from loss so the duchess starts to resent Karhan, and older brother turns cold cause he finds out real origins.

If I am correct, it was because of his brother. He turned his mother against ML by playing several tricks. And ML knew nothing about those.

It was WAY more that just tricks, brother was a real psycho and he takes drugs to stop himself from being violent
He would kill animals and put them in his mothers room, trash her room, and steal her jewlry, then he'd blame it on his brother, making her think ML was a demon child and brother was an angel who put flowers at her door(it was ML who did that)
She only realised when brother killed the duke and she pretended to be on his side stating she rember the sweet child who put put flowers at her window, and he said that he got them from the florist, but she knows they were wild flowers and they were at her door
