@Alcoholic Crusader at this point, I'm pretty sure they knew about the curse the emperor put on her, so the only real way to free her was to kill her and hijack the reincarnation curse so that she could be reborn into his family, this gaining true freedom, and that's why they wanted to kill her. Which is still kinda fuc*** up, but yeah
