It almost reminds me of Emily Dickinson and her sister-in-law, Sue Gilbert (married to her brother Austin). They were close friends, but after Sue became an orphan, she - as a young woman of that era (19th century) - needed a masculine/male figure for financial support. Dickinson's family was already well established thus making it a one stone two bird kind of a situation.
However, I do not support Iseul and Seonwoo's relationship, as it seems unhealthy and manipulative. Their expectations differ drastically; for instance, Seonwoo desires social status and stability (potentially by marrying Iseul's brother, Ihwan?). Their lack of proper communication and mutual understanding ultimately led to their breakup.
This contrasts sharply with Emily Dickinson and Sue Gilbert's situationship, in which the two women found solace in each other within a patriarchal, unfair world, sharing mutual love and respect.
Therefore, while I found Iseul and Seonwoo an incredibly compelling pair with matching social standing and an intriguing plot with a subtle hint of forbidden romance, their dynamic is far beyond toxic for me to even defend it.
