@Notfound sorry for the late reply! he was buying merch at the store in the beginning because, in his original world, darkness exploration records and the ghost stories within it are just that, stories. they don't actually exist, think something along the lines of scps. however, when he got the custom merch after spinning the wheel (the whole "you'll take care of it right?" "yes" "liar" scene), he ends up in the world of darkness exploration records. since he's in the world of the records now, ghost stories exist and are a real thing.
tldr: in og world, everything was just stories and didn't exist - > he goes to the pop-up store to buy merch, gets the company id from the customised merch after spinning the wheel - > gets dropped into current world, the ghost stories are real and do exist
