Honestly, I like that they didn't just made the brother an awkward guy would couldn't show his sister that he cared and the sister just becoming evil on her own. They used to be close, but he became jealous of her for reasonable reasons for a child of his age. But he didn't become a jerk who bullied her, he just drifted from her, unfortunately he also became cold, and by the time he realized he made a mistake, it was too late.
