@Monami i agree with you but i'd like to point out one possibility why she didnt go that route. poorer people are less likely to talk to the police for things like this because they believe that it doesnt fall under the right of authorities. i've read before that once in a rural and poverty stricken place that these poor people didnt ask for benefits from the government because they didn't know it existed. the same may also apply to rumi as she grew up without parents or money so there was really no one to guide her. likewise, she probably doesnt know about how you can protect yourself with the law especially with rumors that don't do physical harm to her directly.
