Her decision is reasonable. Not only would she face prejudice, but this guy just waved stacks of cash around sufficient to get the merchant to change his tune, and crushed a very valuable item on healing her. It's an obvious choice. A schemer would plan around all this, but even an idiot would realize "I should stick near this person who is willing and able to save me".
