i feel like a lot of people missed the point of the ex's story. its not that he wants to get back with joobin but its his way of expressing his guilt towards him, knowing that he shouldve treated him better. he clearly never tried to become a better person for joobin and even when he was grieving, he was reassuring himself that he was just scared and confused. he didnt love joobin, he loved the idea of him but he couldnt handle his imperfections. imo this backstory isnt "useless" but it showed the difference between seaweed and yikyung when faced with the same situation
