At this point in the manga im sure of it now, the scenes of the students in so called heaven was just a flashback for everyone. Every student are now adults that are scattered throughout japan and they all have some stories to tell.

That's my sentiments too. I just noticed it when the 4 kids went outside of the outside. And I have a hunch that Maru is one of Tokio's twins
