Even though carcel was forced in this engagement at 5 years old growing up he did tried to impress her and make efforts to express his feelings and commitment. 
But Ines being trapped in her paradox and only thinking about her exit never even consider to reciprocate his feelings... I mean for her carcel was a ticket to freedom.
