The metaphors are foreshadowing his death lol.
He's repeatedly shown as grasshopper killing caterpillars and she crushed the grasshopper for killing the 'poor' caterpillar.
He called her radiant when he saw her at her lowest through his window, did he sense a kinship? Did he see potential in her? Is he seeking understanding or is he deluding himself in thinking she's just a 'thing' that other caterpillars have been 'preying' on and he wants her for himself and simply ignorant that we're shown again and again she's the 'predator' of grasshopper.
His influence is feeding on misery and promises that leads to multiple murders disguised as suicide around him. Is he suicidal himself? Is he hoping she'll end him?
I should have let this series marinate for my own sanity.
