@Raspberry Plum Sounds like the dad took a fall that he didn't have to. The public already knew their boss was the one responsible for taking the money and disappearing, at that point the project was done. Like no saving it, at least not under the same company name because their reputation was ruined. There really wasn't any good reason for Dobin's dad not to take the hand offered to him when everyone else had already given up on the project. At that point it was every man for himself, so why did he intentionally choose poverty for his young wife and newborn child?

@jihad joe I think that at that time if the project was shut down, they would have still gone bankrupt and everyone would be jobless and pretty much be struggling. Dobin's Dad also probably didn't want his dream and their hardwork to go to waste.
He may have seen a slight hope if the project was successful. He also probably blamed himself as he was pretty much 2nd in command for the work and couldn't protect them.
