@Titania07  Pretty sure the Pardus Family works for the duke as a double agent since the marquis, Rupe's father, is on the duke's side. Rupe has a different family name because he left to the north, publicly siding with the duke, while the emperor thinks that Rupe and the marquis are working for him.

@Titania07  have you forgotten that it was pretty stated on the previous chapter when leo meet the old pardus aka scheming grandpa... she stated that pardus are loyalist of the voreotti because they knew the true power is in the north not the imperial family.

@Titania07  it was told in early episodes that Pardus family turned to the North after being sent by the Emperor. They realized that the empire couldn't stand against the North. The whole family now works for the North but still pretends to be on the side of the Emperor. The assistant who married the stalker just did what he wanted since the Emperor would just think it is the youngest son being stupid. Varia's perspective is that of what the average citizen knows.

@Titania07  out mc is the daughter of the northern duke. Lesser in rank only to the emperor. This guy is the marquis heir. The real marquis is that grandpa. The first emperor was weary of North because they were never conquered. They just decided to join the Empire just because. North enjoyed controlling the king rather than being one. So the emperor sent pardus family to keep an eye on them. Pardus soon realised the real power is in North. So they became loyalists of North and double agent. 

Their entire clan considered north their lord.
