I don't really get the 'they don't communicate' complaints. I find how the characters act according to their personalities and flaws very realistic. Meaning that those things would prevent active communication irl too in an understandable way. I especially relate to the MC by how he assumes everything is his fault and his low self esteem, making it so he never talks to anyone about his inner issues or worries.
That and the points where he feels particularly self-harmy are pretty relatable too but hey that's just how it is sometimes.
