It feels awkward for Ruby when she calls him "Dad" but the Duke is happy and says the Ruby hasn’t done anything wrong and shouldn’t apologize so much. Ruby decides she will get better at it with time. Later, she asks to be put down, runs down the hallway, and jumps into Duke's arms while calling him “Dad.” Duke is surprised but hugs her tightly, showing he accepts it. Ruby feels that family is precious, like a jewel, and believes they were meant to become important to each other. After this the story shifts to night, where Khalid secretly leaves the castle, rides a large wolfdog, and travels quickly using magic. He goes to a nearby city and enters a shady mercenary office, where a suspicious man with one artificial eye greets him.
When Khalid visits a dirty mercenary hideout where a grown man named Allen is clearly afraid of him. Even though Allen is supposed to be the boss, Khalid is actually in control. Khalid questions him about a target, and when Allen hesitates, Khalid uses snakes to threaten and torture him until he talks. Allen reveals some information about a mage and a festival in the north. Before leaving, Khalid takes something valuable from Allen and reminds him that his life is in Khalid’s hands. Afterward, Khalid quietly returns to the castle, thinking about his hidden identity and the dangers around him, and how he is powerful, and feared despite being so young.
