It is worth noting that in the final panels we see this incense enveloping Nain; this reminds me of the incense from earlier chapters that caused him to lose consciousness. To me, the pact involves keeping Nain's body alive, while in exchange, Amon sucks up to those priests a bit by humoring them with his presence.
