I think with this revelation for why he torments Skylar, he's beginning to realize that he doesn't want to suffer anymore, and in turn, he doesn't want to continue being the cause for Skylar's misery, either. I think he's beginning to understand his own feelings toward Skylar, which isn't entirely romantic. I think Cirrus is seeking companionship and comfort from Skylar. I suspect that he'll soon understand that he actually wants to be happy with Skylar instead. Whether it becomes romantic (I suspect it will ;) ) or not, we'll see.
