He doesn’t have a typical appraisal you often see in such stories, so he has to learn the old fashioned way, trial and error
The world he is in has way more information than he was familiar with as an author which has been pointed out several times
From how he has seen his race treated, if his identity got exposed as it did, he would have been imprisoned or killed on the spot
