They aren't gods... the premise so far is that the world they are living in is in fact just a video game in another world. The other world "programmed" the event where monsters appear every week on Wednesday; most likely so that players can gain experience points. The MC might be able to access the general discussion board but that's just among the players. She has no access to the game code itself or even any management staff. The townspeople even more so can't change their "fate." It's like how you can't stop someone from turning the light on if the light switch is outside the room you're locked in.
