Paul love the emperor but her "surname" symbolizes her identity. I mean she worked hard to be acknowledged as winter. It hurts cause it's like choosing between herself and her love for the emperor. It's like "loving you would lose myself so I rather lose you than to lose me" that sort of thing.

@Soter-Queen in that era sexism is a deal bro. It's hard to make changes urgently. Like what I've said Paul did so much to be acknowledged as a female knight. Plus not all stories have the same plot. But I hope the emperor and Paul would end together.
