Sometimes some authors know how to run the romance b plot on the side without it getting in the way.
Winry in FMA is another example of a romance you know exists but it's not slapped into your face to slow down the plot.
In this one we knew there were feelings, they relied on each other, no confirmation, no stupid will they won't they, it was just drama related to soccer instead of drama for drama's sake.
