Hmm, it’s really up to your interpretation. I thought it was a bitter ending though, and I felt sorrow for both sides. The side stories, however, takes on a lighter edge (for example, their sexual encounters finally isn’t straight r*e) than what the main story concluded with— if that comfort you.
