I have a feeling that shes stringing Julian along, doing to him something similar to how Noah treated her, at least Noah made her position clear from the start, but Julian has no clear position in her life, the cool friend or uncle to Alex just like a supporting charachter To the femal lead's journey back to her toxic ex, I bet they would later find some flow in Julian to give river a righteous reason not to choose him.. I personally don't like the femal lead personality and choices, she's always playing victim and expecting everyone to accommodate and protect her, but offers in return no affection and no clear stand.

@Alex why do you keep calling her the « female » lead ? you know the name of the 2 men protagonist and river’s name was in this chapter
@Alex If you have been paying attention, these last few chapters are about the time BEFORE the exhibition (aka before she meets Noah and the kids). It explains how she ended giving J a chance.
