@Grey5kull It does happen in real life too, but the comon people like us doesn't have the right for this. It's mainly guy with toon of money or power (either political or other). Anyway, you need a lot of money to have multiple girlfriends and some of those women doesn't mind sharing because they got what they want.
Also, don't forgot some community like certain groupe of mormon where polygamy is a normal thing.

@Grey5kull I straight up have a mate from my army days that's been in a throuple for years, bros got 4 kids all daughters. Bro is dying to have a son, I will say though it's not just him with two girls it's a straight up 3 way, the story on how they met is hilarious too
