I'm a bit confused about the gold details. Are these mercenaries being hired with millions? Cause if not, a few thousand on high quality soldiers is pocket change for Otto

Nope, just thousands. In the earlier chapters I think the gold coins were called millions (or something close to that) but recently it's just been called gold coins.
