I haven't read the novel... but if my info (from my friend) is right, there was nothing between those two...in fact, they are just rivals in love (they both want Na-in)... :D and I won't spoil the end...but if ur curious about the end game, just ask... I'll write the answer under another spoiler :)

well, unfortunately, neither of them won and in the same time they both did... :D...which is exactly what ur thinking now... the endgame is a throuple...but it is much more complicated than it seems..

Na-in is right about Amon not being HUMAN...he is, in fact, a dragon... and that is the reason he's acting so weird and inhuman, cs he cannot feel the human emotions as normal human can... BUT Na-in is his "chosen mate".... BUT what Na-in needs and wants is just to be happy, to be loved and to be able to love freely...and that is smtg Amon cannot/is not able to do...so even if Amon (in his own way) loves Na-in, he cannot make him happy...the one who can make Na-in happy is ofc Gwen... so the situation is 1) Amon loves Na-in, but cannot make him happy nor let him leave, cs as a chosen mate, he just can't (bruuuh, but whatever :D)...2) Na-in still have some lingering feelings for Amon, but it isn't the pure love he's always wished for, but he cannot leave him, cs he is his fated mate (....), the one Na-in will truly love is Gwen, he's the one who treasures him dearly, understands him and can make him smile sincerely...3) Gwen loves Na-in, but cannot make him leave Amon, cs of the crappy situation... So, One cannot let go, the Second cannot leave, and the Third is caught in the middle of this... :D So for me, it isn't the ending I've wished for (Gwen), but what can we do... anyway, there will be lot of angst (Amon will try to kill Gwen and much more)...but in the end it is all of them "happy together" or all of them dead/sad alone... :) so they chose the first option
