Vinter arrives in the alley. His body feels broken from his constant travels. He has been scouring the country for ancient texts he can decipher. Only ancient magic works on the Leyla and the ancient wizards are gone and their magic lost so the only way to confront the Leyla was to recreate the mirror of truth. So in order to do this, his has been searching for ancient documents and material. As he reaches the top of the stairs he sees the door to his shop in unlocked. The door has magic on it that will only open for designated clients to prevent situations of them arriving and leaving whilst he was away. For example, like a woman who left silently after receiving a purple flower. As Vinter enters he turns sharply and asks who it is.
Yvonne emerges saying he's here now. She's here to make a request or rather to find a missing item and then identifies him as the Marquis of Verdandi. A horrifying silence fills the room. Vinter steps inside blocking the outside from danger, as a silent battlefield begins. He asks how she got in here but she innocently says the door was open and requests him to return her item.

Vinter tries to deny knowing what she's talking about and asks her to come back tomorrow as it's too late. She asks how much must he disappoint her. He seen how much she suffered in that town and despite knowing she was the duke's lost daughter, he still left her alone. Vinter remembers his sin of turning away. For Penelope, who would be sad if Yvonne returned, he didn't say anything. Yvonne continues to tell him how she nearly died when the monsters attacked and the cut on her forehead hurt so bad. But what really hurt the most was how the Marquis distanced himself from her. She asks why he hasn't come to do volunteer work since. Vinter remembers that after they returned from Soleil and he took Penelope home, purple roses bloomed in his unconscious space. Without knowing the reason for why the flowers bloomed, he only watched Yvonne from afar and never met her again. Yvonne says she recognized him right away at Penelope's coming of age ceremony but he accused her of being a killer, she wonders aloud how he can be so cruel and begins to cry.
Vinter closes his eyes remembering there was a time he used to want to listen to whatever she said when he saw her blue eyes full of tears. But at some point it was replaced with dry turquoise eyes. Eyes that were resigned to the knowledge that no one would believe them (i.e. Penelope). Vinter opened his eyes and replied coldly that it was probably not monsters that hurt her but the magic of Penelope that day on Soleil. He points out the monster who supposedly attacked her normally leaves large legions with lots of bleeding but she was only a bit bruised with a cut on her forehead. As if she was hurt by something falling. That day on Soleil island, Penelope's wide area attack caused the cave to collapse so it was due to the fallen rubble.
After this he began to investigate Yvonne because she was attacked by monsters in a village far away from the village she originally lived. Whats more, it was right after what happened in Soleil. He then continues and tells Yvonne the maid Becky's soul had already confirmed that it was Yvonne who ordered her to get the poison for her own plot. After the conversation with Penelope at the duke's estate, Vinter spent a lot of energy summoning the soul of Becky. He wonders why he couldn't believe her. He wanted to immediately tell the duke and clear Penelope's name. But he couldn't.., there were some summonings which were taboo in the empire and Penelope had made up her mind. She had a face that looked like she would die if she didn't leave the duke's state immediately. He then asks Yvonne is she has anything else to say. Yvonne steps forward and her face is revealed. It's creepy - with half of her face crying and the other half fine.
She tells Vinter to return her piece and he tells her he doesn't know what she's looking for and he doesn't have it. Yvonne remarks that their reactions are the same. She tells him Penelope said the same thing and ran away before she ate her. Vinter remembers Penelope telling him she was brainwashed and barely managed to run away. (Okay this next bit I'm not 100% sure but I think she implies that she knew Penelope came here after running away from the house because this is where Derick found her). She tells him to stop it and give her a piece. When he denies having it she takes out another piece of the mirror and and says she'll use this.
He tells her it's useless because he's released from her brainwashing. He no longer feels sorry for her or misses her and only feels aversion and disgust for her. She agrees and puts the piece back into her pocket. She then takes a step towards him and he becomes nervous reaching for his cane. She tells him there's one thing the wizards have been mistaken about for hundreds of years. She tells him that she can't brainwash without a piece of the mirror. It doesn't make sense to use power through the mirror made by the wizards. It's the opposite in fact; the mirror restrains her power. Otherwise she would crush the human brain because she can't control her power. She then tells him he better tell her were the piece is before she crushes his brain and reaches out and digs her nails into his head. She screams and steps back with her hand burning.
