Ok I have a gripe with this. Expiry date is just a guideline as to when the product starts getting bad. It is usally a safe enough date for manufacturers to not fall into trouble. Products rarely get bad by expiry date. I have eating/drank stuff way beyond expiry date and they have been fine. Dying by drinking something that was near expiry is not going to kill you. Very unlikely and could get the company into trouble. Getting rid of food nearing expiry by eating/drinking it is not abuse in any form. It's just not letting good food go to waste.

@Lucky I have a gripe with your gripe. Grapefruit juice has a documented issue of being unsafe to drink with certain prescription medication (which we can assume she took)
@Lucky
Also I've had many experiences where juice would go fowl before anywhere near the expiration date. Most specifically orange juice that stuff has gone bad weeks before it was supposed to be expired. I've had the same thing happen with meats, processed cheese, fruits, and veggies.

@Etain And you pour your juice out in a glass to drink and quickly put the cap back on and put it in the refrigerator? Or are you straight taking the bottle/tetrapack to your mouth and deepkissing it while you drink?
@Lucky I drink it from a cup. And yes as everyone should do I replace the cap and return it to the fridge
@Lucky I think your confusing "best by" dates and "expiration" dates, there is a difference. Expiration dates tell you the last possible estimated day and item is safe to consume, these should be taken seriously and compared to the circumstances that they are in such as: was it stored properly, is it being consumed with another item, was it transferred, etc. Then there is best before/by dates which are just estimations for when the product will no longer be in peak performance, these can be used as recommendations with most items allowing a week or two in leeway.
S.N: I used to be the tyoe of person who completed neglected bb dates and ignored expiration dates when I was younger and let me say all it takes is one time and your f'ed. Maybe it's just an age thing but as you get older you realize that you shouldn't mess with fate because she will kill you, but the B!+ch also won't let you die.

@BlushinBlaqBunny Yes, sorry, I don't think most food items have expiry dates since those are hard to predict. Mostly it's best by dates, I should have been more correct when writing. Of course excerise caution, but most food will be good even after best by dates.
