Marine gently insists that sleep is very important and says she can help Peridot sleep, asking Dia to trust her just once.
Dia hesitates because she finds it hard to trust others. Peridot has been very sick, cannot sleep, cries often, and becomes easily upset. Sleeping pills did not work, and Dia and her sister Garnet have been taking turns staying up with him at night. Marine then reveals that she has a special ability to help people fall asleep. Dia is surprised and unsure whether to believe her, but she decides to take a chance and asks for her help.
Marine goes with Dia to the children’s room, where Garnet is upset and still angry about how the Duke’s family treated them. When the sisters argue, Peridot becomes distressed. Marine calmly approaches Peridot and speaks kindly to him. She surprises everyone by understanding what he is saying through lip reading. This makes Peridot happy, and for the first time in a long while, he smiles. Dia and Garnet are shocked and emotional because they haven’t seen him smile in a long time.
