Part of the issue is when it's "us two against the world", it's a lot easier to fight through as a united front, making compromises and figuring out agreements. In this case, it was the crown prince and commoner saint vs the nobility.
Helios still has the "it's us together" mentality. But Diana has turned to a mentality where it's her and the temple against the worldly nobles and those who support them. At this point, her belief is Helios is someone who should be supporting her blindly in this "fight", while Helios has at least some awareness of the need to balance politics vs his relationship. He's doing it badly with all this overprotectiveness of Diana, but he's being stubborn, not blind.
