So, are they in a game? Because I feel like th ML is the main protagonist and the brown haired sweetie is like the main quest? Like if he dies, then the game restarts over and over again. That would explain why the ML was so pis*** off about the one dude comparing it to a survival game and why we see glimpses of the brown haired guy being dead. Probably wrong, but it's a hunch.
