When Lai and Ellen were still kids, they lived in a village. And that village, is where Hector, Edwin, and their mothers hid. 

 

Lai and Ellen used to be famous back then in their village because of the reason that they are a theif and have never been caught. Now, the one with red eye also happens to be in that village, and for some coincidence, Lai and Ellen happened to have robbed the red eyed man with eye patch. Because of that incident, the red eyed man took an interest with the twins, and his plan was to bring the two to the Capital to make more money. But, unfortunately, the massacre in the village happen. 

 

Now, at their younger ages when they were still in the village, Lai and Hector have already met. Lai couldn't take his eyes of Hector, because when he was younger, he seemed to be obsessed in shiny things. And he sees Hector or the prince the shiniest. 

 

Just as Lai was peeking through Hector's house, he saw a jewel, which is the royal family's treasure. And just as I said, Lai was obsessed with shiny things that's why he decided to rob the jewel, but unfortunately, he got caught by Hector. Even so, instead of taking the jewel that Lai stole, Hector made him keep it and said that he should bury it in where he is the only one who knew. But because Hector was afraid Lai would escape, he decided to accompany Lai on burying the jewel.

 

Now, after they finished burying the jewel, Hector went back to the village. However, Lai couldn't take his eyes off the jewel that's why he decided to return on where he had burried the jewel. Just as he was about to dig jewel, he saw a man with robes and those men in robes mentioned that they will kill the mother and the kid. That's why, Lai immediately went to the village to warn Hector. 

 

Now, to help Hector escape, Edwin's mother sacrificed her own to save him. 

 

Lester, Edwin's father was accused of the one being the mastermind of the massacre of the village, that's why in order to prove his innocence, he took Ellen, thinking that he was the one that witnessed the massacre. But unfortunately, it wasn't Ellen that witnessed, but rather, it was Lai

 

Ellen let the Theodore because the reason is that he knew that Edwin would find someone who has a similar face with and that Hector would protect Lai. 

 

Hector and Ellen teamed up to make Lai remember his memories. Ellen wanted to find his brother because he cares for him, while Hector wants to find him because he loves him. 

 

The day of the banquet is the day where they held the plan. Ellen distracts Edwin, whilst Hector tries to say all about their past. 

 

So in conclusion; Lai wasn't the replacement but the other way around. The real replacement was Ellen. Ellen was the replacement of the witness back then in the village, and he was also the replacement of Lai until he regains his memories.
