I'm pretty sure the ML is some type of sociopathic, so he probably doesn't UNDERSTAND the concept of love. The future he imagined for the MC was his way of trying to be normal while still keeping the MC shackled to his life. He might not actually love the MC, or will ever genuinely love him, but he's definitely obsessed.
